The most famous finds from this grave are probably the helmet and the great gold buckle from Sutton Hoo, both important examples of Anglo-Saxon craftsmanship.

Among the ruling classes of the Anglo-Saxons and other Germanic peoples, expensive and elaborately decorated belts were essential as prestigious clothing accessories.

This intricately designed brass belt buckle is a detailed replica of the original gold buckle from the Sutton Hoo ship grave, as displayed in the British Museum, London. It consists of three parts: an elongated, egg-shaped mounting plate, a mandrel with a round plate, and a bracket. The mandrel plate and bracket can be moved independently of each other. All components of the belt buckle are richly decorated: the mounting plate is covered over its entire surface with animals or animal-like creatures, from writhing snakes to entwined four-legged beasts and stylized bird heads. The serpent-like decorations are repeated on the thorn plate, while the buckle bracket is decorated with fine braided motifs.

This beautiful piece is sure to be the talk of any medieval market, LARP, or reenactment event.
