Godfred lived at Haithabu (near Schleswig), the most important Viking settlement in Jutland, until his death in 810.  \u003cbr\u003eThe sword dates from the 8th century and has the typical shape of an early medieval Viking sword: a short, slightly forward-curved crossguard, a straight, double-edged blade with a wider, fuller pommel featuring three ridges. This sword is exclusively handmade. The crossguard and the triple-ridged pommel are made of forged, heat-treated cast iron. The spring steel blade extends to the pommel, where it is hand-riveted. The handle is wrapped with a wide leather strap. The blade has a pronounced groove, giving the sword great elasticity yet a light weight. It is oil-hardened to approximately 48-50 HRC. The blade edges are unsharpened. The sword comes with a very nice wooden leather scabbard with two buckles attached to straps.
