Although some sword fragments were also found at that time, they were not preserved. The beautifully detailed original grave find can be admired at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. This finely crafted piece of Viking history, dating from the 9th and early 10th centuries, is classified as type D according to the Petersen typology of Viking swords.
Since the blade was missing from the original find, a classic Nordic shape was chosen for this reconstruction, and this one-handed sword has the typical features of a traditional sword from the High Middle Ages.
The straight, double-edged blade, made from EN45 tempered spring steel, has a wide kerf and unsharpened edges. The handle, consisting of a short, oval guard (approximately 10 cm long and 2 cm thick), a brown leather-covered grip, and a generous pommel, is cast in bronze. The guard and pommel are richly decorated. The engraved, highly detailed motifs and patterns that decorated the original artifact have been recreated as faithfully as possible. As with many surviving historical examples from this period, the pommel of this sword is a two-part construction. The full-length blade tang screws into the lower flat section, and the upper cap is secured to the base with two rivets. The beautiful decorations on the pommel are enhanced by braided copper wire inlays.
This early medieval one-handed sword is delivered with a brown wooden/leather scabbard with mouthpiece, cap and bronze sling (maximum belt width 6 cm).
This sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.

Details:
- Material: Hardened EN45 spring steel blade (carbon steel, not stainless), bronze handle with leather-wrapped handle and copper inlays
- Total length: approx. 97 cm
- Blade length: approx. 79 cm
- Blade thickness: approx. 4.5 mm (cutting edges approx. 1 mm)
- Handle length: approx. 18 cm (handle section approx. 10 cm)
- Maximum blade width: approx. 4.5 cm.
- Center of gravity: approx. 12 cm in front of the guard

- Incl. wooden case with genuine leather sheath and bronze fittings
- Weight without cover: approx. 1.7kg
- Weight with case: approx. 2.2 kg
The above specifications may vary slightly from specimen to specimen.
The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion.
