Kerns were light infantry soldiers who formed the bulk of the Irish armed forces during the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. These Gaelic warriors, mostly mercenaries, demonstrated their fierce fighting spirit in many conflicts across the British Isles.\u003cbr\u003e One of their preferred weapons was a sword with a broad blade and a distinctive ring-shaped pommel, through the center of which the tang end of the blade visibly passed. This unique open-ring pommel was relatively typical of Irish swords of the 15th and 16th centuries. Many surviving original examples of this type have been found during archaeological excavations throughout Ireland and can be admired in various museums, including the \u003ci\u003eNational Museum of Ireland\u003c\/i\u003e in Dublin.   \u003cbr\u003eOur affordable reconstruction of the iconic Irish Gaelic ring-pommel sword features a broad, double-edged EN45 spring steel blade that is flush for approximately two-thirds of its length. The cutting edges are unsharpened, and the blade's continuous tang is bolted to the pommel.
