Category-B

Enjoy Felipe IV Sword with Sheath, 14th Century.

Philip IV sword with scabbard, 14th century
This beautiful medieval sword is a replica of an original 14th-century piece found in the 19th century in a tomb in Toulouse, France. Due to its stunning aesthetics and the use of high-quality materials (the pommel, for example, was covered with gold-plated silver sheeting), the Oakeshott Type XIV sword was supposedly a gift to the French king Philip IV the Fair ( Philip the Fair , 1268–1314).
In his Records of the Medieval Sword , first published in 1991, Ewart Oakeshott hypothesizes that this is a real sword and may well be the sword carried by Philip IV of France in 1308 at Chartres Cathedral as a token of gratitude to God for one of his victorious battles. However, to date, there is no solid evidence of such a royal connection.
The remarkably well-preserved original is now in the Musée de l'Armée in Paris, France.
The sword offered here has a broad, double-edged blade that tapers sharply toward the tip. The groove, which runs approximately two-thirds of the blade's length, is engraved on both sides with the inscription nulla de virtutibus tuis major clementia est (none of your virtues is greater than that of clemency). The cutting edges are unsharpened.
The wooden handle is wrapped in red leather, and the guard, which curves toward the blade, and the pommel are made of brass. In the center of the pommel is a circular recess in which a floral motif is engraved.
The sword is delivered with a red wood and leather scabbard with a headstall, mouth plate and movable brass rings.
This medieval sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object. It's also ideal as an accessory, for example, to complete your costume.
Details:
- Blade material: carbon steel
- Rockwell hardness: 48 – 52 HRC
- Handle material: Wooden handle with leather covering, brass crossguard and pommel.
- Total length: approx. 84cm
- Blade length: approx. 66 cm
- Blade thickness: approx. 5.2 mm
- Handle length: approx. 18 cm (handle section approx. 10 cm)
- Maximum blade width: approx. 9 cm.
- Center of gravity: approx. 10.5 cm in front of the guard
- Includes wooden case with leather sheath and brass fittings.
- Weight without cover: approx. 1.5kg
- Weight with case: approx. 2.2 kg
The above specifications may vary slightly from specimen to specimen.
The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion.
