The original is currently in the Landesmuseum Zurich (inventory number IN 6982).
The original sword, classified as the Oakeshott type, has grooves on both sides for about two-thirds of its length. The most striking feature of the sword is the enigmatic inscription nnsd , engraved in the groove: although there is still speculation about the meaning of this sequence of letters framed by two cross-legged figures, experts tend to assume that the letters represent the abbreviation of a prayer or an invocation to God, possibly in nomine sancti domini (in the name of the holy lord), in nomine sancti dei (in the name of the holy god) or in nomine salvatoris domini (in the name of the savior and lord).
The one-handed sword offered here is a faithful replica of this beautiful piece of medieval history. The engravings on the wide groove of the double-edged EN45 spring steel blade are as faithful a replica as possible of the drawings that adorn the original. The edges are unsharpened, and the continuous tang of the blade is riveted to the pommel. The handle consists of a slightly downward-curved crossguard, a sturdy disc pommel, and a grip with a wooden core, which is tightly wrapped with a fine blue leather thong. The guard and pommel are made of solid steel.
This medieval knight's sword comes with a blue wooden/leather scabbard with two adjustable-length carrying straps made of black leather and antique-finished brass buckles.
This medieval sword is designed as a collectible or decorative object. It's also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume, and will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect.
Details:
- Blade material: EN45 spring steel (carbon steel, not stainless)
- Rockwell hardness of the blade: approx. 48-52 hrc
- Handle material: wood with leather covering, steel guard and pommel
- Total length: approx. 83.5cm
- Blade length: approx. 66 cm
- Blade thickness: approx. 5 mm (cutting edges approx. 1 mm)
- Handle length: approx. 17.5 cm (handle section approx. 10 cm)
- Maximum blade width: approx. 6.2 cm
- Center of gravity: approx. 11 cm in front of the guard
- Includes wooden sheath with genuine leather scabbard and sword hanger (maximum belt width 7 cm)
- Weight without cover: approx. 1.58kg
- Weight with case: approx. 2.1 kg
The above specifications may vary slightly from specimen to specimen.
The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion.
