The original was owned by Ea Christensen, a well-known Danish sword collector. Ab Hoffmeyer's drawings of the medieval sword were published in the book "Gammelt Jern" (no. 66, p. 88), published in 1968. It is classified as type XIV according to the Oakeshott typology and dates from between 1275 and 1340.
The exact location of the original sword, which is now housed in the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen, is unknown.
The sword has a wide, double-edged blade that tapers toward the tip. Two deep grooves run almost the entire length of the blade, and the edges are unsharpened. The crossguard is slightly curved, and the wooden handle, wrapped in red leather, culminates in a faceted K-shaped pommel. The center of the pommel also has a red circular accent on both sides.
The sword comes with a red wooden and leather scabbard with a brass plate and a beautiful, sturdy leather belt. The belt can be adjusted to different sizes thanks to the floral-look brass eyelets.
This medieval sword is designed as a collectible or decorative object. It's also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume, and will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect.
Details:
- Blade material: carbon steel
- Rockwell hardness of the blade: 48 – 52 hrc
- Handle material: Wooden handle with leather covering, steel guard and pommel.
- Total length: approx. 99cm
- Blade length: approx. 79 cm
- Blade thickness: approx. 4.8 mm
- Handle length: approx. 19 cm (handle section approx. 10 cm)
- Maximum blade width: approx. 6 cm
- Center of gravity: approx. 10.5 cm in front of the guard
- Incl. wooden sheath with genuine leather scabbard, brass headstall and sword belt
- Weight without cover: approx. 1.8kg
- Weight with case: approx. 2.6 kg
The above specifications may vary slightly from specimen to specimen.
The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion.
