The sword received its name "aislinn," meaning vision or dream in Irish, from a previous curator. The sword, classified by Oakeshott as Type XV, dates from the 15th century. However, this date is often questioned. It is thought that it could also be a 19th-century forgery, as the sword's hilt is almost perfectly preserved, while the blade shows strong signs of unparalleled corrosion.
This replica has a double-edged blade that tapers sharply toward the tip. Approximately one-third of its length has a groove, and the cutting edges are unsharpened. The handle section consists of two black horn plates riveted to the tang of the full-length blade. The guard, curved toward the blade, and the disk pommel are made of bronze.
The sword comes with a brown wooden/leather scabbard with a black headstall and muzzle strap, and a sturdy leather belt. The strap end and belt buckle are made of brass and decorated with a dragon and lion motif on a red background.
This medieval sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
Details:
- Blade material: carbon steel
- Rockwell hardness: 48 – 52 HRC
- Handle material: Horn handle with brass details, bronze pommel and guard
- Total length: approx. 96cm
- Blade length: approx. 76 cm
- Blade thickness: approx. 4.7 mm
- Handle length: approx. 21 cm (handle section approx. 12.5 cm)
- Maximum blade width: approx. 5.7 cm
- Center of gravity: approx. 7 cm in front of the guard
- Incl. wooden sheath with leather scabbard, sword belt
- Weight without cover: approx. 1.5kg
- Weight with case: approx. 2 kg
The above specifications may vary slightly from specimen to specimen.
The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion.
