His successes as an English military commander in the Hundred Years' War between England and France earned him a place among the foremost knights of his time.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003eThe elegant and heavy medieval belt we offer here is a reconstruction of his waistband (also called a \u003ci\u003edusing\u003c\/i\u003e - English \u003ci\u003earse-girdle\u003c\/i\u003e ), as displayed in his life-size tomb effigy. The original gilt bronze template can still be admired today in Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, England (see last image above).\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003eOur approximately 6cm wide belt consists of a thick leather core, which is covered by an additional layer of finer black leather stitched on the back. Like the original image, the strap is decorated with a series of blue-enamelled disc-shaped brass plates depicting a lion's head. The quatrefoil-shaped belt buckle, also made of blue-enamelled brass, shows a standing heraldic lion (the so-called \u003ci\u003elion statant\u003c\/i\u003e or \u003ci\u003estatant\u003c\/i\u003e \u003ci\u003eguardant\u003c\/i\u003e ). The knight's belt is available in three sizes and has no holes.
