It dates from the 1st century BC. The original artifact, dating to around 300 BC, is classified as a late La Tène period helmet (also known as La Tène III or La Tène D ).

The port helmet type originates from eastern Gaul. Its characteristic distinguishing features were the round dome, the wide, riveted neck guard, the deep-set brow ridges, and the cheek flaps. Although this helmet is clearly of Celtic origin and was worn by Gallic warriors, it is thought to have also been used by Roman troops in Caesar's Gallic Wars (58–50 BC). This special helmet form was eventually adopted by the Romans and eventually developed into the so-called Imperial Gallic Weisenau helmet, the Roman legionary helmet considered to be a classic.

This reconstruction of a Gallic port-type helmet with movable cheek flaps is made of 1.2 mm steel. The distinctive neck guard is attached to the helmet's bell with five round rivets. As the helmet has no integrated lining, it comes with a cotton-padded hood that makes it comfortable to wear. Small rings on the inside of the cheek flaps also offer the possibility of attaching a chin strap.

Details:

- Material: 1.2 mm steel, 100% cotton padded hood

- Suitable for head circumference up to approx. 62 cm.
- Long interior distance (back of head-front): approx. 21 cm

- Short inner distance (ear-to-ear): approx. 19 cm

- Height (without cheek flaps): approx. 13 cm

- Weight (helmet only): approx. 1 kg

- Weight with padded hood: approx. 1.1 kg

The above specifications may vary slightly from copy to copy.
At Tienda Medieval, we have thousands of medieval and other period products.
