According to the original templates, it consists of a row of riveted rings (round rivet heads) and a row of perforated rings. Due to the extremely small diameter of the rings, these chain mails could be manufactured then and now from steel with a material thickness of just 1 mm without losing their strength. This results in a weight reduction of approximately 30–35%.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e We shortened this type of braid to rm ( \u003cb\u003eRoman\u003c\/b\u003e \u003cb\u003emaille\u003c\/b\u003e ) because it was already very popular among the Celts and Romans (hamata).
